Here is some information regarding the fundraising efforts for SAMH, as shared by the Scottish Motor Racing Club. Every contribution, whether at the upcoming BBQ or otherwise, is deeply appreciated. Knockhill has initiated the process with a remarkably generous donation. Let’s work together to exceed the target of £1500!
Back in 2018, a profound sense of loss was felt throughout our community due to the tragic passing of a dear friend, colleague, and fellow marshal to suicide. Given the predominantly male nature of motorsport, it is concerning that 75% of suicides are male, and suicide stands as the primary cause of death among men under 45 years old. This statistic is five times higher than female suicide rates.
In 2019, the SMRC took a pioneering step by introducing a comprehensive support program. This initiative secured spots for more than 90 volunteers to participate in a Mental Health Awareness course offered by SAMH.
Additionally, 11 members of the senior leadership team, underwent a two-day Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training course (ASIST). This accomplishment establishes the Scottish Motor Racing Club as not just the first organisation in the UK to provide this training, but also the sole motorsport club in the country with designated Suicide First Aiders.
If anyone wishes to contribute—individuals, teams, drivers—please feel free to use the Just Giving link provided below. This link is directly connected to SAMH, ensuring that 100% of all raised funds will benefit their cause. By donating, you show your support for our dedicated volunteer workforce, who tirelessly ensure the smooth delivery of events, rain or shine, regardless of their personal feelings or challenges they may be facing.
For visiting marshals at Knockhill who come across this message, a collection bucket will be accessible each morning and during lunchtime in the marshal hut. Alternatively, you can follow the provided link. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
In a few weeks, we will unveil the total funds collected. This will be done alongside an official donation handover during the last SMRC club meeting of the season. Our partners, who have already made significant contributions, will be present for this momentous occasion.
