Memorial Service for Andrew Cowan

Andrew Cowan with his original Sunbeam Rapier at Stobbs Camp near Hawick.

A Memorial Service for the late Andrew Cowan will be held on Saturday 1st February 2020, commencing at 1pm.

The venue will be Duns Parish Church, Duns, Berwickshire TD11 3DD, just off the A6105, in the centre of Duns. Parking is very difficult in town centre so we have arranged parking for guests at Duns Primary School, Langtongate, TD11 3QQ and there will be two buses to bring people to and from church. Parking at the church and elsewhere in the town could then be used for those that need closer access.

The nearest commercial airports are Edinburgh (85km away), Newcastle (125km away), while the LNER East Coast Mainline trains run hourly to Berwick-uponTweed with a 25km taxi ride to Duns.

For those seeking accommodation in Duns area, before or after the Memorial Service, please check www.visitscotland.com. We understand there is a new Premier Inn opening in Berwick shortly.

The Memorial Service is expected to last around an hour. Afterwards, guests are invited to tea/coffee back at Duns Primary School.

The Jim Clark Museum in Newtown Street, Duns, TD11 3ER of which Andrew was a patron, is opening specially from 10.30am on 1st February for those attending Andrew’s memorial Service, the museum has recently been refurbished and is worth visiting whilst in the area. The Museum is close to the Primary School where hospitality is being provided after the Memorial Service.

The family are not looking for any floral tributes, but in honour of Andrew, his wife Linda has established a charitable “Just Giving” arrangement in favour of the Borders General Hospital, in support of ancillary services for patients. This hospital cared for Andrew during his final years and whether people are attending his Memorial Service or not, they may wish to donate to this worthwhile charity in Andrew’s name, and leave a message on the site.
