Edinburgh Watch Company Become Official Classics Sponsor

We are delighted to announce that the Edinburgh Watch Company will be the official sponsor for the 2021 Scottish Classics Sports and Saloons Championship. This new partnership aims to enhance the experience for classics drivers on race weekends, with special trophies, a new driver of the day award and an exclusive Edinburgh Watch Company offering for the championship’s drivers.

The Edinburgh Watch Company is a local business which specialises in the sales and purchase of fine Swiss luxury watches. The company has become an established partner of the Scottish Motor Racing Club over the past couple of years, having supported the club’s awards dinner and event timing. However, this new partnership will see the brand become much more prominent within SMRC race weekends, aligning with one of the most spectacular championships in our programme.

The partnership will see unique Edinburgh Watch Company trophies awarded to podium finishers at each race meeting. In addition, a new ‘Edinburgh Watch Company Driver of the Day’ award will be introduced for all events. Selected by the Knockhill commentary team, this will be awarded at each race meeting to a Classics driver who has shown great spirit across the event; be that a driver who has performed significantly better than usual, or a driver who has overcome mechanical adversity to get their car on the track. All registered Classics drivers will also benefit from an Edinburgh Watch Company ‘Welcome Pack’ at the first of event of the season, which will include an EWC gift and an exclusive offer for Classics drivers, to help them become a proud owner of a luxury time piece.

Jonathan Gilbert

Edinburgh Watch Company owner and ex SMRC saloon car racer, Jonathan Gilbert, is passionate about supporting the development of Scottish motor racing and sees the Classics link as an excellent fit for the EWC brand.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to support the 2021 championship which builds on the SMRC and EWC relationship. I look forward to an exciting season and wish all the drivers and their teams the best of luck!” Jonathan Gilbert

The Scottish Classic Sports and Saloon Championship, brings a little nostalgia to SMRC race weekends, featuring some spectacular machinery from years gone by. In 2020, despite the circumstances, the championship enjoyed a strong year with an average of 20 cars taking part in each event and a nail bitingly close title fight, which saw Bruce Mitchell (Lotus Europa) and Alastair Baptie (Fiat X1/9) finish on equal points!  With the added boost of EWC backing, this momentum is set to continue for 2021, with a mixture of new, past and existing faces expected to take to the grid.

Commenting on the new partnership, SMRC Business Development Manager, Rory Bryant said:

“It’s brilliant to be continuing our partnership with the Edinburgh Watch Company. Jonathan has been a fantastic supporter of the club; he is as passionate as us about making the experience better for the drivers and I think this collaboration will really help to make 2021 a special year for the Scottish Classics Sports and Saloons Championship.”

The Scottish Classic Sports and Saloon Championship will head into action at Knockhill on Sunday 6th June, where all the cars will carry the striking Edinburgh Watch Company branding on their windscreen headers.
