Chief Marshal Appointment

We’re delighted to announce that Richard Burrell has been appointed as our clubs new Chief Marshal.

Following Jim Redpath’s retirement earlier this year, a role description was created for the Chief Marshal position and applications were invited from the current marshalling team.

The applications were reviewed by the SMRC board earlier this week. Commenting off the back of the process, Business Development Manager, Rory Bryant, said:

“Replacing someone of Jim’s quality and experience was always going to be an extremely difficult task. That said, we were extremely pleased with the quality of applications and level of interest we had throughout this process. The combination of Richard’s passion for the SMRC marshalling team and his evident leadership abilities, made him the unanimous choice of the board.”

Commenting on his new appointment, Richard said:

“I am thrilled to have accepted the role of Chief Marshal. The recent work I have done with the club has allowed me to fully appreciate the complexity of the role. It comes with enormous responsibility and to work with the SMRC at this level is something I look to excel at. I’m keen to make sure all of the new initiatives are driven to completion, but mainly I will ensure that there is continual leadership and support maintained for the orange family, a team I pride myself of being part of.”

Aside from ensuring the all the necessary marshalling arrangements are in place for the first race meeting, Richard’s first task – with the assistance of the SMRC Management team – will be to form the new marshals committee, to manage and oversee the clubs marshalling activities effectively.
