2021 SMRC Season Announcement

‘A new chapter for Scottish Motor Racing’

It goes without saying that 2020 has been an extremely unusual and challenging year for us all. With our delayed 2020 season now underway, we are delighted and relieved to have been able to get back out on track this year.

At the same time, as a club, we are also looking to the future and evaluating how we can offer the best possible service to our members. As such, we have put plans in place for an exciting new 2021 season format, which we hope will spark the interest of racers past, present and new.

In 2021, the Scottish motor racing season will be fought out over a more varied calendar, visiting 4 different venues and 5 different track layouts across the season (courtesy of utilising Knockhill’s anti clockwise layout). The majority of events will still take place at Knockhill, but drivers, teams and volunteers will also benefit from visits to 3 other circuits, which will include Croft, with the other two venues to be confirmed. The final calendar will be released over the coming weeks but we are anticipating a 7 event championship spanning April to October 2021.

We are very conscious of keeping motorsport affordable for our members and we understand that additional away rounds carry a cost. As such, we will be setting a standard entry fee for all events. The exact fee will be announced in due course once we have more finalised details on track rental agreements but we don’t anticipate the fees being drastically different to our standard Knockhill entry.

In addition, we appreciate that logistics and travel for away rounds is challenging for many and as such, we are working on a new partnership which will hopefully support SMRC members with their away round costs.

Commenting on this new look calendar, SMRC Chairman, Sandy Denham said:

“We are very excited to announce our 2021 season plans, which should make next year a real adventure for all involved. Increasingly, we have had feedback that members want more variety but the cost of competing away can be prohibitive. With the proposed entry fee and further support we are aiming to announce, we feel these plans can deliver that variety at an affordable price point for our members.”

We will be working hard over the coming weeks to progress more detailed plans for the upcoming season. Of course, we have to be mindful of the ongoing Covid-19 situation and as such, these plans are subject to change. However, we will remain optimistic and continue our planning for what bodes be an excellent season!
