About

The Celtic Speed Scottish Mini Cooper Cup is rapidly being recognised as one of the best single-make racing series in the UK.

The Celtic Speed Scottish Mini Cooper Cup is recognised as one of the best single-make racing series in the UK and has seen previous competitors go on to shine on both the UK and European Motorsport scene.

This championship takes its inspiration from the British Touring Car Championship in the way the races are formatted.  Race 1’s grid is set by qualifying position while Race 2 is decided by the result of Race 1 and Race 3 is the wildcard – drawn by ballot with anywhere between the top 5 and 8 cars reversed.  This format has proven to be highly effective in creating action packed races.  Gone are the days when drivers could simply rely on fast qualifying laps to get them to the podium.  Much more emphasis is now placed on the individual drivers’ skills and determination to place from any starting point.

All Mini’s will also be racing on the same tyres, the Yokohama A050 – arguably one of the best tyres for both safety and performance in the sometimes very changeable weather conditions experienced in Scottish Motorsport.

As well as the overall Championship, we will also be running separate Championships for both Newcomers and Ladies.  Each Championship will be run together in the same races.  The winners of these championships will receive their award at our annual Dinner and Presentation night – date and venue yet to be decided – a night NOT to be missed!

2019 will see the Championship hotly contested over 20 rounds.  All rounds will count towards the overall Winners’ Cup as well as the best Newcomer and Ladies Race Championships.  The Scottish Mini Cooper Cup itself will take place at 6 separate Knockhill Race Meetings with the other 2 rounds seeing us travel to a guest circuit – yet to be announced.

This promises to be a well-run, fast paced and highly competitive Championship which will allow drivers to display their race craft to their full extent.
