Czech Republic takes FIA ecoRally Scotland crown

Bridgestone FIA ecoRally Cup Champions, Michal Žďárský and Jakub Nábělek, (Czech Republic) claim the ecoRally Scotland title, for round eight of the FIA Bridgestone ecoRally cup.

It was Hyundai who was awarded the manufacturer’s cup, during the inaugural event from UNESCO city of Design, Dundee.

Sunday saw day two of ecoRally Scotland get underway, with crews heading out into the Highlands and breaking for lunch at Queen’s View, Pitlochry.

With set times for crews to complete each stage, points are awarded for every tenth of a second out, with stunning scenery a reward for the twists and turns encountered along the stages.

In the International Category one, reigning Vice-Champions, and current championship leaders of the 2025 Bridgestone FIA ecoRally Cup, Guido Guerrini, (San Marino) and Artur Prusak, (France) took silver, after a day of skilled and nimble driving.

The furthest-travelled team, Kalin Dedikov and Antoaneta Dedikova from Sofia, Bulgaria, placed third.

Shirley and Antonio Fernandez, the father-daughter Galician crew scooped the Energy Consumption Index in FIA Category 1, after a dramatic turn of events on Sunday, with the result a true testament to the team’s resolve.

Within Category Two, works-backed Alpine A290 and by ten-time French rally champion Emmanuel ‘Manu’ Guigou, and co-driver Emilien Le Borgne took the podium, closely followed by rising stars of the discipline, Tomáš Korený  and Tereza Bohumská from the Czech Republic in their Hyundai Inster, the team currently sit 11th in the Bridgestone FIA ecoRally Cup standings, having finished 7th in their home edition of the event.

Placing third, skilled Brits Ashleigh Morris and co-driver Craig Parry saw another Alpine A290 within the top three, thanks to a combination of rallying heritage and tactics.

Alpine were awarded Category 2 Manufacturer, with the marque showcasing its rich motorsport heritage in a new electric vehicle capacity.

In the National Class, for ecoRally Scotland, it was another podium for the daring duo of James Hoyles and Iain Tuillie representing Ilkley and District Motor Club, defending their title in the ecoRally Scotland event for the second time.

Motorsport UK’s StreetCar programme saw the winning regional talent of Sam Naylor and Iain Carr, placing second – truly going from StreetCar contender to FIA Rally driver in under six months.

Third place was taken by Johnnie Mackay and Cameron Stout, a driver-mechanic team who is one of Aberdeen and the North East’s leading representatives.

An excellent weekend of innovative driving, with a fitting closure to Motorsport UK’s Electric Weekend.
