Fiesta and Hot Hatch ChampionshipBack to August 2018
Race 1 15 laps
Wayne Macaulay led all the way from pole to chequered flag, but it wasn’t too easy initially. Blair Murdoch stuck with him for a couple of laps then a safety car period bunched p the field on lap 4.Ryan Stirling was 3rd from the off but Lorn Murray who qualified well in 4th was slow at MacIytres on lap 1 and dropped back to 7th. He and Aiden Ward clashed on lap 2 at the hairpin. Ward stopped, restarted and stopped again. He was out and Murray made a quick pit stop a lap after the safety car went in, lost a lap but came back and finished 6th . Ryan Stirling was 3rd but he slowed on lap 7 having been holding off Stewart Scott and Russell Morgan in a spirited dice. Ryan then retired. This promoted Scott to 3rd though now around 4 seconds behind Blair Murdoch, who was a couple of seconds off leader Wayne Macaulay. There was a dice for 4th in the second half of the race as Nicholas Forsyth and Russell Morgan ran nose to tail and swapped places a couple of times. Morgan regained 4th on lap 10 at Clark corner and opened out a second gap, but on the last lap he went wide at Leslie’s then skated over the grass and got back on the tarmac. But he was now 5th as Forsyth was through and held on to take 4th. A few regulars were missing and no hatches were out. It was Wayne’s win by 4.5 seconds from Blair.
Wayne Macaulay led the field from pole into Duffus. At MacIntyres Blair Murdoch dived inside him to lead for 25 yards, but Wayne zipped past as they exited the corner and was never headed again. It was then a routine win for the Champion who set fastest lap (61.15 secs) and won by 3.2 seconds. Although over laps 1& 2 Blair Murdoch pressed him, and stayed within a couple of car lengths. Then on lap 3 Blair went sideways exiting the chicane and lost the tow. He was now a second down and Wayne just eased away. Blair also got clear of his pursuers, as Stewart Scott and Russell Morgan fought over 3rd. Scott was 3rd until lap 5 then went off at Leslie’s, going onto the grass then spinning, before restarting last, were he stayed . He then reduced the gap on Aiden Ward ahead of him from over 5 seconds to 1.5 secs by the flag. Russell Morgan then had a good run to 3rd slowly easing away from the 4th place tuscle, with Nicholas Forsyth holding off Lorn Murray. These two running nose to tail all race and having Aiden Ward right with them until the last 2 laps, when he dropped back just a second. There was one retirement, Ryan Stirling on lap 3 pitted and didn’t return having been last at the time
Wayne Macaulay completed a hat trick of wins, but had to work for it. This race saw Blair Murdoch stay on his bootlid until lap 4 and they spent laps one & two running nose to tail. On lap 5 Wayne got half a second gap and that was enough to see him slowly get clear. It was just a second gap by lap 7 then grew to 3.5 secs by the flag, as Blair had another 2nd place. Russell Morgan was 3rd all the way. He was just behind Blair and stayed within a second of him until lap 5, then dropped back. Stewart Scott was 4th from the off after a good start going from 7th on the grid. He was a second behind Russell by lap 2. Nicholas Forsyth chased him for a lap then Ryan Stirling demoted him. Ryan had started 8th and last. He sat close to Stewart Scott from lap 4 to the last lap when he nipped past for 4th. He was just over 2 seconds behind Russell Morgan at the flag. Scott and Stirling had got away from a 3 car scrap led by Nicholas Forsyth. This was close and Forsyth kept ahead until lap 9 when Lorn Murray got past, followed closely by Aiden Ward on the same lap. These three were still close until lap 11, when Murray eased clear to finish 6th.
