The Mini Cooper S R53 Cup 2017Back to March 2018
These supercharged Minis are quick and race with Saloons and Sportscars. Their first season saw the experienced Oliver Mortimer dominate and win all 14 rounds. He could get right amongst the S&S front runners if it was wet, and performed heroically as he often qualified well up.
Daniel Dreelan was runner up with five 2nds and one third in the 6 rounds he raced in. In third was Paul Wilson, who regularly got closest to Oly on track during the 8 races he took part in. However 4 were as a guest and he scored no points in these, then Paul registered and scored four 2nds. Veteran Ray MacDowall had 3 race finishes in a limited programme scoring three 2nds to be 4th. In 5th was Will Picken who had two 3rds, while Jock Borthwick had one 3rd. So there were 6 drivers scoring points and 4 guests, which included former Mini Cooper Champions David Sleigh and Vic Covey jnr.
Points: 1. Oliver Mortimer (294) 2. Daniel Dreelan (110) 3. Paul Wilson (56)
