Jamie Thorburn Racing ReportBack to June 2018
From the outset it was clear that I had a car capable of being right at the front, in the opening minutes of the session Cliff Dempsey Racing were 1-2-3 on the timing screens. I ended up qualifying 3rd and it was an incredibly strong session as we secured 2nd , 3rd and 4th on the grid for race 1.
A tricky first few laps due to mistakes on my part cost me dearly as I dropped down to 5th. The race didn’t improve from then on as I suffered damage after being hit at the hairpin by an out of control car, which had attempted to pass on the grass. I finished up 6th.
Unlike Race 1 this time I managed to stay out of trouble in the first few laps, and capitalise on mistakes of those in front to work my way up to 3rd. I struggled with the balance of the car in the middle part of the race, but was still closing down the gap to the lead battle. A late safety car period spiced up the action, and resulted in a 1 lap dash to the flag. I came very close to taking second on the last lap, as we crossed the line side by side, but ultimately had to settle for 3rd.
The reverse grid top 6 meant I was starting from 4th, and a great first lap meant I immediately moved up a position to 3rd. The race was frantic from start to finish, as I had to attack and defend into every corner. I managed to climb another place with a move around the outside into the hairpin about halfway through the race, and from then on battled for the top step with Neil MacLennan and Luke Cooper. I crossed the line 3rd, which ended a strong weekend with another trip to the podium!
Overall it was a great weekend back in Scotland, and most importantly back on the podium! As a team we showed great pace in every race and scored vital points in the Championship!
