SMRC ESPORTS RACING CHAMPIONSHIP
We’re delighted to launch the SMRC Esports Racing Championship; the virtual to reality contest that allows any player who proves his or her skill in the virtual world the chance to make their real-life motor racing debut.
We’ve teamed up with former Scottish Formula Ford champion and current Redbull Esports driver – Graham Carroll – to create this new virtual SMRC championship. Whilst the first stage of this competition will take place in the virtual world, there will be an element of familiarity for our current members and followers as this championship utilises the popular Legends cars!
Gamers across the world will have the opportunity to compete to become the inaugural SMRC Esports Racing Champion. The contest has three stages, designed to narrow down the competitors with the best performance and potential to succeed.
This process starts with four online qualifying races, starting on 25 September, using the iRacing platform. The top 10 drivers (plus four wild cards) from the qualifying races will graduate to the semi-final at Knockhill. The semi-final will see Graham Carroll and 2001 World Rally Champion, Robert Reid, assess the competitors across a number of challenges, including karting and an interview assessment. The top two competitors from this process will go through to the final of the competition, where they will compete in a head to head simulator race on stage – during our Awards night in Glasgow. The winner of this race will be crowned the first ever SMRC Esports Champion.
The champion will earn the amazing opportunity to gain all the training necessary to take to the track in real life and join a grid of drivers in the hugely competitive Scottish Legends Cars Championship.
The car and support for this prize will be provided thanks to Andrew Donald and Scottish Legends Cars, with insurance provided by Reis Motorsport Insurance, an ARDS test courtesy of Knockhil Racing Circuit and race wear support from Torq Racewear.
