SMRC Women on Track

Motorsport is unique in being one of the few sports where women and men can compete on an equal playing field. Despite this, women make up a small minority of the SMRC’s membership.  We’re determined to change this…

New for 2019, the SMRC Women on Track initiative aims to represent the views of existing women within the Scottish Motor Racing Club and help to encourage many more women to get involved.

There are a number of brilliant opportunities for women in motorsport. Whether it be as a driver, marshal or social member, women have equal place in the motorsport industry and the SMRC are committed to promoting their support of female inclusion.

Read our information brochure for more information about the SMRC Women on Track campaign.

Coaching

Unlike many sports, motorsport has traditionally not had a culture of coaching within clubs. This seems a little strange, given the complexity, speed and potential risks associated with motorsport!

With this in mind, the Scottish Motor Racing Club are proud to be the first motor racing club in the UK to run a club coaching programme for members. Regardless of whether you are a seasoned campaigner, a young career minded driver or a complete newcomer to the sport, our team of experienced Motorsport UK qualified coaches are on hand to help.

How does the coaching Service work?

Race Meeting Support

There will always be at least one SMRC coach available at our race meetings. If you have a question or would like someone to have a quick look over one of your on-board video’s, then you can ask one of our coaching team and they will be happy to help. We will share details with competitors on which coaches are available before each race meeting.

Group Sessions

We run group sessions for members throughout the year. These are usually classroom based and focus on a variety of subjects from an ‘Introduction to Racing’ course, for newcomers, to a technical driving theory session for people of all experience levels.

There is a modest fee for taking part in one of these sessions. Keep an eye out in our club news for updates on the next session.

Private Coaching Sessions

If you would like a bespoke coaching session that is tailored to your own needs, then we offer one to one sessions with our coaches. This could take the form of in car coaching at a track day, one to one video coaching on a test day, a goal setting session etc.

Private Coaching Price List:

LengthCost
2 Hour Session£100
Half Day£160
Full Day£200

Marshalling

SMRC meetings normally take place at Knockhill. Details for individual meetings vary, but marshals are generally required to sign on between 7:15 and 7:45am at the marshals’ building beside Race Control. Sign-on times for the forthcoming meeting will be posted on the website approximately a week before the meeting takes place. The sign-on process allocates marshals to a discipline and a post on the track for the day. A briefing for all marshals is held at around 8:00am before everyone heads out to post, generally for 8:30am depending on if it is a Club or National event.

Lunch with a refreshment is provided for marshals at SMRC events and racing normally finishes between 5:00pm and 6:00pm however on occasion it may finish slightly later. Marshals should ensure that they are adequately prepared for a day trackside at the circuit, facing all weather with potential for extremely variable conditions.

To co-ordinate the SMRC marshalling force we have a Chief Marshal – Richard Burrell and Marshal Co-ordinator Jackie Spencer who would be happy to provide you with any further information should you require it. SMRC now have an online registration process for Motorsport UK licenced marshals to register their availability for race weekends. You can register your details as a Race Registration Marshal by filling out the form below.

The SMRC will welcome any new or experienced marshal, please feel free to get in touch!

The SMRC Marshals Fellowship is exclusively available to our registered club marshals. It offers our marshals an accessible opportunity to join the club, recognising the significant contributions they make to help our events take place throughout the year.
